Srinagar, June 11: An improvised explosive device (IED) planted on the Baramulla-Srinagar highway in Putkha district of Sopore was defused by police and security forces on Saturday morning, officials said.
Quoting a senior police officer, KNO news agency reported that security forces detected the explosive device on the side of a road, following which a bomb disposal squad (BDS) had was summoned to the spot.
The device was destroyed by a mechanism controlled by the bomb squad, the officer said.
He said traffic which had been halted as a precaution on the Baramulla-Srinagar highway has now been restored. A case has been registered and the police have opened an investigation, he added.
